Masonry Paint - Smooth or Textured ?

Hi,

Please excuse the rather basic question, but what are the factors affecting the choice of either smooth or textured masonry paint, ie, why choose smooth or why choose textured?

The texture stuff is designed to hide imperfections in the surface. It doesn't go very far and it's a pig to clean. If you can use the smooth then do so.
