Matt finish rubbed off.

HI,

I have a new matt kitchen where some of the matt finish has been rubbed off during installation. The finish in this area is now shiny.

Does anyone know of a product to touch this up. I'm thinking a spray might be best.

Any ideas of how to do this would be appreciated too.

This is puzzling.
How did this happen?
Where's this kitchen from?
It should be a lot more durable; a simple rubbing shouldn't cause any problem.
Could be a case of potential replacement from manufacturer.

It is the top plinth of a kitchen that's just been rubbed at the join. Was just wondering if anyone knows of a good clear matt spray just to try and renew the matt finish

Has someone tried too hard to 'blend' the join?
New plinth would be the best solution.
I suppose you could try some kind of clear varnish or stabiliser - but I think you're gonna see it.
Does the manufacturer offer some kind of touch up paint?

Better idea. Have you got an off-cut of the plinth?
You could cut out the damaged section, move one of the long lengths along, and fit the off-cut at one end.

More sensible idea. Just buy some more plinth NOW, while it's still available, and put it down to experience.

Sorry, but why not talk to the fitter or the manufacturer?

I am a decorator-yeah, there have have been times in the past where I tried to polish out minor imperfections on long runs of painted worktops (which I had previously painted). On each occasion they went from being oilbased eggshell to looking like gloss, and I ended up having to apply another coat of eggshell.

In your case, I suspect that the fitter has cut through the finish coat into the base coat- not sure though.

I am not convinced that a lower sheen spray coat will work. That said it might, but, I would expect there to be a halo effect unless you spray the whole length. You do not know what the current sheen level is and the product you are looking at doesn't tell you what the sheen level is.

Depending on the manufacturer of the spray, matt can be up to a 20+ sheen level.

My kitchen is Matt paint finish but had a sheen at install which gradually faded to Matt .
