MCB's

HI,

I have a Wylex consumer unit and want to replace the fuses with MCB's. can someone please send me a link to where I can buy the correct ones? I want to replace 2 x 30amp 1 x 20 and a few 15's.

Apologies if this is obvious but I dont want to get the wrong ones.

Out of interest, can we ask why you want to replace the fuses with MCBs, the benfeits of doing so are limited in many cases and it may be a waste of your money!

Garage keeps tripping (Rcd) and now fuse going to it has blown. I dont have any replacement fuses and think a few of these would be easier, especially if one blows and I am not at home.

I guess I am just looking for less hassle. Ideally i would like to have a new consumer unit but cant afford yet. I have just bought a couple to replace the garage and cooker circuits.

You don't need a new consumer unit - you need to find the fault.

You have a faulty that needs finding and sorting, new fuses wont alter that!

i know, its on my to do list.

i reckon it will be pretty easy to fix. 1 Feed into 1 socket and 1 light. I presume I need a meter and just check the continuity?

Funny thing is it trips with no light on and nothing plugged in,

I will come back here when I get chance to look at it.

I have pretty much concluded that the fault lies in the cable from the consumer unit to the garage.

I am going to just replace this cable. and get someone to connect it to the consumer unit. What type of cable do I need? The garage just has one light and double socket.

You have a circuit which has been intermittently tripping the RCD. Now the fault has progressed to blowing the fuse.

Why would you want to restore power to it knowing there is a fault?

I know a customer that did that several times and it caused a fire.

[the whole circuit consists of 1 light and one double socket, the light and the socket both "flicker" when used. The cable from the house runs down the wall and goes under ground. I have heard it crackling where it runs down the wall (in a a pipe).

I am currently insulating the ceiling where the cable runs from the consumer unit to outside and have exposed the cable so I reckon I may as well just replace it while I have no ceiling and there is a good chance it will fix the problem.

A sparky will actually connect the cable to the consumer unit so if the circuit is not working correctly then I will discuss what to replace next. Its such a simple circuit and all the cable is exposed in the garage so I can replace it all if need be.

The light was a very old strip one (so I suspected it could be the problem) which I have now binned and replaced with a rose and the problem still occurs.

This was the cable running underground from the house to the garage. Fell apart as soon as I pulled it.
