Guys,

I have a piece of MDF skirting which I have taken off, cleaned up and now need to reapply. It'll be applied using no more nails (since my Dad conveniently had some and dropped it round). At the moment we have bare floorboards, these in the case of the main strip, will run parallel with the skirting. If I just apply the no nails and push it up against the wall with my hands I'm guessing it won't be sufficient to keep it there?

I was thinking there must be a way I can use the floorboards (and gaps between them) to my advantage here to secure it.

What do people think? - Oh and it's raw brick/similar coarse stuff I'm sticking it to. At this moment nails and screws wouldn't really be an option as it wouldn't match elsewhere and I think I'd have to get different nails and screws, and I want to do it tonight! - Pre Christmas 'pressure' if you see where I'm coming from

Thanks

Thanks John, its a through lounge and dining room so sadly no - it would be nearly the depth of the house! I'm trying to visualise it now at work, hoping that when I get home and I'm in front of it something obvious will spring to mind!

You can fix a block onto your floorboards, and brace from there......you don't always need a brace of course - it just depends on how flat things are. Sometimes some tape is all thats needed.
John :)

Scraps of timber braced at angle to skirting and screwed to floor boards, remove when adhesive has set.Have used this method many times, for hard floors a bucket of water provides enough weight to brace off.

Interesting, how long does nonails take to 'cure' to to speak? I suppose my options depend on what random spare wood I can find (I have a small box of a few odd pieces. I suppose the bucket method could be used instead - I'd not thought of that cheers.

I suppose it's a bit primitive to put actually screw a bit of wood into the floorboards to brace it in place? I guess with the correct screws and depth I would only leave small holes - and as we're getting carpet in the new year it's no big deal...

Should go off in a few hours but I leave overnight to be 100%. You can use panel pins to the brace if you don't want screw holes.

Grab a steel ruler (or plastic), wedge in the gap between floorboards and then use some wood offcuts between it and the skirting board..?
