MDPE to 15mm copper

The mains is 25mm MDPE joined to 15mm copper. That copper needs to be a bit longer. Can I just take the the copper out of that coupling if I slacken it off. Or is this one of those things where I need new O rings/grabs etc.

Depends what make of joiner / adapter you have, if you post a picture it'll make it easier to answer your question
