Whats the difference between the Megger MFTs MFT1552 and the MFT1553?
Do both only require two lead operation for loop testing?

Thats about it, as far as differences is concerned, I've got the 1553 and as a tester its pretty much the best I've ever used, don't get charmed into buying a cheap metrel/alphatek or kewtech, you'll regret not spending a little bit more.

I have used the bluetooth function in conjunction with my Nokia N95 but I've gone back to pen an paper, but I can see that anyone who does a lot of new build or identical consumer unit changes whould see a huge benefit. I don't think its the end of the pencil just yet.

The 1553/1552 doesn't eat anywhere near as much as most other MFT's on the market.

All in all, I'd heartily reccomend it to any spark who is serious about their testing. (which should be all of you!)

are they any MFTs on market which do two probe loop tests, like my LT7?

My alphatek eurotest AT does. I think it does anyway, I'll check tomorrow.

Little word of warning... Had a MF megger for years- in all honesty, decent enough bit of kit- but when it went wrong megger wanted about £600 for something they call a "standard repair". I doubt it costs them that to build the things, of course what they really wanted was for me to buy a new one, so I did, the alphatek.

"ricicle": Are you sure the MFT1553 only needs 2 leads for no-trip loop tests? I've not seen it advertised as having that advantage over the MFT1552.
Chris

Nope, you need to use all 3 probes on the MFT for the no-trip loop tests.
