Does the membrane in/under a floor slab have to be all in one piece, or can more than one piece be joined? If the latter, how?

You might find differing specifications depending on the manufacturer, type of membrane, position of membrane and whether it is also a gas barrier but; generally it is 150mm lapped joint sealed with double sided tape. Visqueen do a tape for the job. I'm sure the others do as well.
