How far out should metal box protrude when just skiming on solid walls. 2 -3 mm or flush with original wall. Thanks

Sorry my question can be read both ways. What I meant was having walls skimmed but changing metal boxes first so should i leave them flush or protude by? to allow for skim - thanks

Tbh it doesn't matter that much you can leave a mm or 2 proud if you wish I've seen refurbs where the back box has been sunken in by half an inch or so all that meant was that you have long screws 2 mm is negligible
