Metal Storm Door Closer Stripped

The closer on my metal storm door has pulled away from the holes where the screws went into the metal part of the door.

I have tried using larger screws but this soon pulled out of the holes as well.

Any thoughts?

Rivet a bigger spreader plate over that lot, then screw into the new holes in the new plate.

I do not have a rivet gun.
But if I had one, can I rivet through this area without access to the back?

Freddie is bang on with this......pop rivets can be used blind so just what you need!
I'd go for 5mm diameter (officially 4.9mm but 5 is fine), around 10mm long or whatever.
All you need is at Wickes or B&Q etc, and the spreader metal around 2mm thick.

Home depot might be closer than the UK based B&Q.

But for rivets I would first consider Canadian Tyre:

In theory yes.
I would suggest you ask at Canadian Tyre as they used to be helpful and knowledgeable when it came to car items..
Lilley that you need that rivet set and a mid priced tool.

(Remember that this web site is almost 100% UK users, so have have more knowledge of UK shops over Canadian shops.
