What a useless bunch of half-bakes,I ordered laminate flooring and different handles for my kitchen. Waited all day for the delivery guys only to be told (once I phoned them) that the handles hadn't been picked up and the laminate flooring was due till 27th July(that's 10 weeks from when I ordered it).Fair play to the guy in the call centre he sorted out the flooring so it comes 19th June ,but thats still s hite and the handle will be another 2 weeks away

I'm afraid this is very common problem with MFI.

ps: MFI stand for Made For Idiot !

That's the last time they get any of my money again

I have to stand up for them, we have an MFI fitted kitchen, evrything is as it is supposed to be and the fitter did a marvelous job.

You see, the sheds know they can continue to do this because

1) Most people are reasonable and will realise it isn't the fault of the guy on the other end of the phone
2) Many people will tut and say "would have been nice to get it now, but I suppose it won't kill us to wait a few weeks".
3) Most people aren't persistent enough to cause any real bother.

I reckon there are some very cynical people behind many of these companies.

I had a load of stuff including a bathroom suite delivered by Wickes. They said Saturday, then the following Saturday, then "looks like 4 or 5 weeks now". Lo and behold, without warning, early the next Saturday I am awoken by my doorbell to find a couple of guys there who want to unload a bathroom suite, a load of timber and some 8'x4' plasterboards. Great, if it wasn't for the fact I live in a small flat and didn't actually have anywhere to put it all right then!

In my working life, I have worked for over a 100 kitchen companies, these vary from the big sheds to the one off high street stores but the one thing they all had in common was they all could not give a monkeys about their customers.

If anybody gets gets a kitchen supplied correctly and on time, that is more luck than planning.

Before anybody tells me that they had a great service from start to finish, I know it happens but a lot less often than you would think.

They don't have their own fitters do they???

I thought that they used subbies?

Hence the varying stories, because it's down to the individual subcontractor.

You have to be registered with them and they do keep an eye on your work, any contract with them can finish very quickly if they want.

Very few kitchen companies employ fitters most are subbies.

The sh*teness of MFI was proved today. They finally delievered my laminate flooring and one box was damaged. The driver didnt care and told me to phone MFI ,theyre customer service centre was down so I went to the shop.Had my rant and told them I wanted a replacement pack sent asap. The shop phoned me back to say theyre a problem with the laminate flooring and it wouldnt be sent for 4 weeks!!!!! So Ive now been waiting 10 weeks for it and have the possiblity of another 4 weeks before I can finish.

I have to agreed but the price of the kitchen are sometime hard to beat.

When I fitted my kitchen the fridge door has a slight bow (10mm ), so they sent another one and guess what they sent another bow door ! Well to cut a long story short, the manager took a spirit level to use as a straight edge and said this is dead straight and will send it on to you, this was over the phone. Guess what ? You've got it

I now have 13 bow doors !!!!!!!!! hmmm, enough to make another kitchen !

I decided to go to their MFI depot and demanded to see how they stack them, well I couldn't believe it, the doors was only held on edge and all the door was bow in the middle. I asked the folklift driver the problem and said sorry mate I only work here, nothing to do with me.

No doubt they would be quick to blame you if you had ignored storage and acclimatisation instructions for a door and ended up with it bowed.

I have had problems with the way proper yards store materials too. My local builder's yard sold me a load of 3x2 planed timber. First off they sold me the expensive stuff instead of the stuff they sell for studwork (despite me asking for 3x2 studwork timber) which was twice the price and not quite the right size. Then when I got it all home I realised that a couple of the lengths were badly bowed from being stored as 6m lengths stored upright. So what should have been a few cheap studs turned out to be very expensive noggins!

For kitchen units I'd suggest using B&Q, all in stock - collect there and then and the quality is superior (from what I've seen) eg. one piece steel drawer sides/runners, 18 mm chipboard drawer bottoms, 18mm carcasses.

But the fact you can collect what you want at the shop saves some much time and aggro is worth it on it's own.

Lot's of friends and family have tales of woe regarding incorrect or damaged deliveries, waiting for deliveries to arrive (between 8am and 7pm) then not arriving  by which time the automated telephone system has absorbed your soul...

You can't even take incorrect items back to the shop, you have to stay in all day for them to be collected by a labotomised van driver called 'ahfvhh' (i think that's what he said?) who's "been up since 4 and had to be in Sodding Chipbury for 7"

I think this topic hit a nerve...

I'll stop now.

The problem is not just the kitchen unit, we all got a story to tell haven't we
There is always something wrong with any delivery and nothing is ever straight forward and parts missing etc..............

When I was doing my bathroom the Lynx driver who delivered all my stuff from Screwfix was a right character! He would open the slide-up tailgate and the packages would be all over the place, most of them with big dents in them!

I once told him "you didn't have to hurry, I could have waited for those tools" but he assured me that he only drove quickly when the van was empty. Nutter!

Hopefully no-one had anything delicate there, it is easy for me to jest when all I had was heavy lumps of tool and plumbing fitting in there!

Anyway, Mild. You have done a few kitchens if I recall. Did the B&Q carcasses go together well? Looking on their website they seem to do one model of carcass and all the different doors fit. Did you use those ones, or some premium-type range they do?
