That's probably why some of them don't work properly!

The correct tube was an offcut of 8mm if the entry was straight, or a spiral flexible copper tube for twin panels; this had to be teased some way into one of the panels, or the rad wouldn't heat up.

All of those that I have dismantled have had plastic tube ( as Charnwood said ).

Most went about half way along the rad.

I am merely repeating what the manufacturers said at the time. I've only seen them with copper internal tails.

I've seen both plastic and copper - not in the same rad though
Not seeing it, I expect I'd change it, and do likewise when redecorating round the house.
Modern rads tend to look smarter and aren't too expensive. You might want to get your own rather than get a plumber to supply it, or he'll have to add a margin.
It can be tricky to work out the output (watts) of some of the old ones, be careful.
