Could anyone tell me what type of wall fixings I need to fix a microwave bracket to a wall. My house was built 2 and a half years ago and I am unsure if the walls are plaster board but when I tried drilling the wall it went a little way in then just went straight in like there was no more wall. Any advice would be appreciated. [/code]

Sounds like a stud wall. Is it hollow sounding when you tap it?
If so then you can get spring toggles for these type of wall but I'd be dubious about hanging something as heavy as a microwave off them.

Plus those types of fittings are good at resisting pulling out, but not at all good at resisting being deflected downwards under shear loads.

As I've observed before - stud walls = work of the devil.
