I don't use my MIG welder very often (maybe once a month) and as the workshop is a wee bit damp the wire tends to get a tiny layer of rust on - even in the depths of the reel.
Does this have any effect on the welding performance - i.e the wire doesn't seem to feed so well and tends to stick more to the work - or is it just me and lack of practice?

It does affect the performance. Save those little packs of silica gel you get with stuff and keep those in the case.

Right, I guess its out with the 5kg reels and in with the mini spools......I'll try wrapping the spool with cling film when the set is stored.
I'll see if the silica gel helps too.
Cheers!
John :)
