To deal with the problem I have been advised to get a kit of new seals from Mira; take it apart; descale, polish up the parts and reassemble with new rings and a smear of silicone grease on all working parts.

To take the taps apart I believe I will have to empty the cold water tank and work on the taps. Is this correct or is there a way of blocking valves while the tap is serviced?
Is there a way of guaranteeing that no air bubbles will be introduced into the pipes while the work is done?

Have you checked if there is a valve on the outlet from the cold water tank?
