I need to fit new taps to my bath and basin. To drain both the hot and cold system do I just turn off the water supply for the cold supply, stop the tank in the loft re-filling by tying off the ball cock (hot supply) and running the taps until drained? Someone told me if I do this I would need to bleed all my radiators and there is a chance my immersion heater tank would get damaged? Whats that all about? I have a combi boiler, I thought radiators and hot/cold water supply were separate and god knows what the immersion comment is all about. Or have I missed something?

you don't have a tank in the loft if you have a combi.

Ah, ok, anyway, its a boiler in the kitchen that does hot water and heating, assumed it was a combi boiler but maybe that's something all together different.

So, will draining the system damage the immersion tank or cause me to bleed the radiators?

1: if you have a combi yes turning the cold supply off will shut off both hot and cold but make sure the boilers off
2:if you do have a cold water tank feeding the hot water cylinder in the loft and a smaller seperate tank for boiler then yes cutting the supply to the cold water tank, feeding the cylinder will stop hot water flowing till the tanks drained.this will not effect any emmersion heater unless you drain the hot water cylinder wich you will not need to do.nor bleeding rads cos its a totally seperate circuit to the ch.hope this helps
