Mixing mortar for mowing strip

Hello.

I'm planning to edge my front lawn with some old bricks as a mowing strip. I've found a sand/cement mortar that looks like you only need to add water to it when mixing. I wondered if this would do the job? I've an old piece of worktop to mix on and my plan was to lay the bricks on a bed of mortar (with extra behind the brick to keep them snug against the lawn) and once the strip is complete, to compact the mortar mix into the gaps to 'grout' the brick in.

Just wondered if this sounded a reasonable way to approach.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

ready mix mortar is sh*te  you need concrete if you want to use a readymix product  Also don`t grout the bricks - just let the dirt from the garden do it naturally - loads of info at www.pavingexpert.com

I can't see that mortar being a problem. I any case the soil will retain the bricks, and they wont be going anywhere
