I have a 2004 Mondeo, 2-litre petrol. Looking at throttle housing the other day and noticed it has 2 Bowden cables, one from the accelerator pedal (as you'd expect), the other going off to somewhere the other side of the engine bay. There's no problem so I didn't study it much, but I'm curious. The Haynes manual says nothing about it.

All I can think of it's for a fast idle. Anybody know?

As far as I know, one of the cables is directly connected to the throttle pedal and the other to a servo motor which adjusts the idle speed as you say.....it’s a sort of anti stall feature I believe.
I’ve never seen one going down the back of the engine though!
John :)

OK thanks. It goes to somewhere in the back corner of the engine bay (to the right as you're looking at it). I'll have a closer look sometime.
