monoblock taps

i would appreciate any advice on the following,
a friend has asked me to take a look at his kitchen taps where one solid tail is leaking where it enters the tap, the tap is a few years old,would it be possible to unscrew the tail apply ptfe tape to stop the leak or is it time for a new tap?
