I think he means , that if Denmark are taken out of the equation and it is up the Greenlanders only to decide their future, it will be easier to bribe or bully them into handing over their sovereignty to the Americans.

They are still an autonomous territory of Denmark which affords them Danish defence and currency stability...
However as a territory they chose to leave the EU purely to maintain control over fishing rights - a one issue referendum
But unlike the UK, they retained their rights as EU citizens through their ties with Denmark.
The real worry is that should the orange rapist succeed then as the incoming US ambassador to Iceland said about that totally independent country, 'They'll become the 52nd state'...
