I live in a big old Victorian house over 4 floors. The height distance from the boiler to the highest point of the heating circuit is just under 8 metres and most pumps only operate up to 6 metres. Do I have to use two pumps, or site the pump on the first floor? Any ideas? Thanks

Your pump needs to be sized to the system. A 6mt pump will only handle a heating load of around 35 kw max.
What output is your boiler?
What heating load are your radiators?
What is the frictional resistance of your system?
The answers to these questions will determine the size of the pump required.
