Hi
I mixed the mortar right next to what I was building which has resulted in quite a few splashes and blobs of motrtar on the newly laid brickwork. Also, I seem to have got a kind of white residue on some of the bricks right below the mortar. Any ideas of how to get rid of either/both with out using a wire brush etc and scarring the nice new look of the bricks.

Thanks

You can get acid which kills the cement and makes removal easier. The white residue could be lime run off.

Brick acid is good for smears or smudges. Anything with any thickness will require scraping off and the remaining stain removed with acid.

Bear in mind however that any struck pointing will inevitably be etched with any acid placed upon it. This will effectively accelerate the weathering process to the struck surface of the pointing.
