Found this massive back box buried in the kitchen wall under the plaster. Should see the crater left behind! What's the strangest thing that you've found in a wall? Steve.

i don't see what is so strange about that, MK do some cooker switches (presumablly meant to be easier to wire) that go on a really big box like that.

Once when i chipped off some plaster a found a load of writing on the brick wall behind....
It read......

`MANCHESTER CITY WILL WIN THE PREMIERSHIP IN 2009`

Wahooo .....wembley here i come!!!!!!!!

Nice one mate..I'm a City fan too from Blackley/Moston border originally, Harpurhey Baths area if you know it. Now living in Middleton.

In the 1960's as a youngster I was asked to install an intercom between two rooms in a cottage. Poking out the wall in both rooms were taped up wires and I tested them to see if they were ends of the same cable to save running new wire. They had 6 volts DC on them. And enough 6 amps to light a 6 volt car headlamp bulb which they did for several years even when power to the cottage was removed.

When the cottages were demolished a 240 to 6 volt power supply was found bricked up in the wall of the cellar and fed via under ground cable from an army establishment a mile of so away.

It was thought that the cottages had had some clandestine function during the war.

Bernard,

That is indeed very interesting. Can you remember whether the rectification was done by valve (maybe an EZ81 or earlier) or selenium rectifier - would be interested to know the details including where abouts the cottages were - Cardington perhaps?

Regards
