Where is this valve likely to be situated? central heating was installed 25 years ago

It depends on what heating system you have.

If it is the fully pumped type with a hot water cylinder, there will be either one mid-position valve or two zone valves, after the pump and before the rads and HW cylinder.

But if you have just pumped central heating with gravity circulated HW, there may not be any motorized valves.

Tell us more.

The hot water is coming through ok and the upstairs radiators are heating up but there is very little heat downstairs. I called out a plumber who replaced the pump but still have the same problem he initially said that a powerflush might help or to replace the gate/motorised valve but i don;t know where that is.I have a hot water cylinder in the loft but the plumber said the valve isn,t in the loft area. could it be under the bathroom floor? or is it possible because of the age of the system I don,t have one. Appreciate any help you could give

How many pipes are connected to the boiler - not counting gas and flue?

Hi
The boiler is a Glowworm Hideaway 60B there are 2 large diameter pipes conected to the boiler and gas pipe.
Do you know why the ground floor radiators are letting very little heat through but the connecting pipes and valves are hot? The plumber has tried balancing the rad valves without any success.
Thanks

OK, so you have a fully pumped system. How do you control the hot water times and temperatures?

This will not be a problem with the motorized valve. Either you have a blockage somewhere in the downstairs circuit or the system is very badly balanced. Do you have TRVs on any of the rads?

Hi
The hot water and heating times are controlled by a Grasslin Towerchron QE2 electric unit in a cupboard next to the boiler the water temp is set using the dial at the front of the boiler.
All the rads have TRVs on them the rad in the morning room is newer(7years) and is working fine the rad in the kitchen is also ok the main problem is in both lounges and the hall. If I leave the heating on constantly these rads eventually give out a small amount of heat but tale about 10 hours to reach that point. Do you think a powerflush would help?

Can you control the hot water times completely independent of heating times?
Do you mean the dial on the boiler or the thermostat on the side of the hot water cylinder?
If you do mean the boiler's dial, that suggests you do not have a thermostat on the hot water cylinder. Is this correct?
What temperature do you set it to?

All the rads have TRVs on them
So you do not have a wall mounted room thermostat?

Can you trace the pipe from the pump and say what what it connects to?

Hi
Sorry in the delay replying to you
The problem has been the motorised valve, a plumber has now fitted a new motor and the heating is now working fine. Unfortunatley I had to take up the tiled bathroom floor to acces the valve! will have to think about moving the valve to a more readily accessible place.
Thanks for all your help and advice much appreciated
