Hi,

I recently purchased some HSS steel bits to drill three holes into a kitchen column so that I can put a TV stand onto the wall.

This is the TV stand: Ibra Flat TV Mount
This is the TV: Samsung 32 Inch

After drilling smaller pilot holes (Slow with WD40) into the wall I found that it was difficult to even get the pilot holes through, never mind the 10mm that the bracket needs. The drill seems unable to get any further into the wall.

I decided to get somebody in to take a look. He advised a swing arm mount as the TV has a rounded back apparently? If we get the mount through him including fitting around £180. This seems a lot to drill some holes into a steel beam and attach a TV mount or is this average price?

I have attached some photo's of the column and the hole that I drilled (messed up the plaster).

Thanks for advice!

What exactly is that column ? Is it structural reinforced concrete or a vertical I beam encased in concrete ?

If it is a vertical I beam then you might be drilling into the web and thus weakening the beam significantly.

how deep have you gone in before you hit steel, get yourself some heavy duty Tek screws

yep they're the boys, tek screws, get some for heavy duty steel .

Thanks for the feedback.

@bernardgreen - Yes it is an I beam, encased in plaster and a bit of wood.

So it's possible to drill this onto the wall then with some tek screws? Smaller hole and HSS drill bit's should be good?

Thanks
