Hi again guys just wondering.if anyone has manage to rebuild a starter motor as mine a bit lazy on turning over .Ive fitted a new battrey and checked the valve clearances and all terminals so it has to be the starter, it has the rm65 engine so spares are sparse and was wondering if anyone know if I could to retrofit one also what i need to look for if I strip my starter today

Ive rebuilt many motors and solenoids on quads and ride on mower but not yours. Have you checked ,you have a multimeter right? the votage on the output from the solenoid with the lead disconnected from the starter motor? I haven't already done so, thoroughly clean all live cable connections and the negative ones where they earth on the frame .

I'll check power when cranking today but there not a solenoid that I can see on mine unless it's internal in the starter just look a y loom from the battrey to the switch to the starter.was just worries about opening it just in case I can't get the brushes back on the motor ,suppose I could blast some alcohol in side the try clean it

Ive got some pics archived somewhere of a rebuild , I seem to remember retaining the 4 brushes with split pins on some can you post some pics of the motor?
As an after thought to see if it has sepearate solenoid, is there a small switching wire on the starter motor as well as the main cable? if not, if you disconnect and isolate the main cable and hit the starter you should hear an external solenoid click.

I'll post some pics up later as I'll pop it off and do some pics the wiring goes via a limited switch for the flywheel brake I did bypass all that and put power direct to the starter and it was the same so guessing it must be the starter .it does work just not like new if you know what I mean and the carb was fixed as I needed a a ring for the plastic jet which I'm think you replied on my other thread ( thanks for that ) I managed to get hold of a part from a gx200 engine which worked perfect so the mower runs perfectly now

hi lostinthelight ive uploaded some pics of my starter also a clip on youtube just so you can see my issue like i said it turns over just . im sure it shouldnt struggle though as the battrey is a 5.5amp new one also tested the wires and its shhowing 12.8v at the starter with the wires removed and cant see a solenoid in the loom ,would you say there a fault or is this how mowers start on start up

this is the vid hope it works

Video not yet live, did you check for voltage drop as you were turnning it over. did you check for faster turn over with spark plug removed?
Does opl fully pull the brake off flywheel when its in the run position?
Just viewed video, doesnt look too much wrong with the speed to me.

edit
hadn't viewed right to end when it starts then starter slows..will be back later when i have more time

well went for it and stripped it and cleaned all parts not to bad really ,i did reasemble and try and noticed the gear wantt rising afterwards :(GREAT but undone the outer casing and rotated 180 degrees which solved that .It works slighty better so pleased ,but i do feel the motor magnets may be slighty weak which would i think be the main issue so ill keep looking on ebay to see if one ever turns up so pics of the inside if anyone want to ever see the internals of a rm65 starter motor
