I am moving my kitchen temporarily as the builders are propping through the middle of it. I have an ancient neff double oven and it has no info on wattage etc. It currently has an on/off switch to the terminal with the oven cable in. Can I link the oven cable to a 13 amp plug and plug it in (and not use both ovens at the same time) - or get a longer bit of cable and run it 5 metres from the isolator switch as a very temporary measure?

what's the duration of the building work?

do you really need an oven if it's only for a couple of weeks?

takeaways deliver, and there's always a pub doing carveries for your sunday dinner.. and now's a good time to start on those salads to lose the extra christmas pounds..

Build work is about three months so takeaways not so good and lost our gas supply aswell so oven will be a must.

get yourself a microwave/ oven/ grill gombi thing and use that..

my kitchen has been dismantled and "temporarily" set up in the spare room now for nearly 10 months... does me fine...

a double oven (without hob) usually has a load of about 20Amps so is not safe on a 13A plug. However if you only ever use one oven at a time you should be OK

An electric hob (or cooker) must never be connected via a plug.

Sorry, John, you're contradicting yourself. Surely in the same way as your double oven example, an electric hob could be connected via a 13a plug, as long as only 2 rings are used. Take two knobs off for safety. ;)
