Hi there.

I've lived in this council flat my whole life and since they re-did the radiators with these new individual dials that go from 1-5 they keep breaking. Different ones at different times, and either they get stuck being off, or more annoyingly, they won't turn off and continue to heat the house all through the summer.

This time it's the radiator in the living room that will not turn off, and it's making my life hell. The boiler isn't situated in my house as hot water is supplied to the whole area from one central boiler. I would really like to be able to fix it without calling out the council because then I have to run round like a headless sweaty chicken in the blazing heat cleaning everything and of course, my desk with my computer on it is in front of said radiator.

I just need to know which valve to twist to turn it off, I don't need to be able to turn it back on, just off would be great.

Thank you so much in advance.

You should be able to control the rad to off with the lockshield valve which is at the opposite end to the TRV.

Of course you will need a small adjustable spanner.

It sounds as if they used very poor quality TRVs!

Thats the problem if you live in a council rented flat!

Most people bought theirs years ago.

Must be varying with different councils; my uncles council flat has communal heating and they have Honeywell TRV's! Hardly need the heating there, it gets extremely hot and the radiators are like an iron if you turn them on.
