The rheostat used to control fan speed on my myson convector heater has burned out and spares are "no longer available". I have bypassed the rheostat to keep warm - motor runs at boost speed all the time. can anyone suggest how I might reduce the speed again - e.g. are electronic speed controllers (e.g. as in my drill) or mains light dimmers have any relevance ? The motor runs on mains voltage and is (I suspect) brushless / synchronous ??

Pointers in the right direction would be appreciated
