I reckon he did replace the original cast iron fuse box, the outline of it is still clearly visible.
Maybe, but I was envisioning that there was probably an additional intermediate 'stage' - cast iron original in 1952, then change to Wylexes (with fuses) in late 60s/70s/early 80s, then swapping the Wylex fuses for MCBs (and adding the RCD) in 1993 ... but it's obviously all speculation!

I moved into my present house in 1987. At that time it had umpteen Wylex Standards, and I regarded them as being very much 'old hat' (and 'ready for replacement') even then, so I very much doubt I would have been inclined to allow anyone to install new ones as late as 1993.
