Have NAPIT coming on Friday, has anyone any recent experience of them coming for initial assessment?

If so any pointers as to what they want to look at and what detail.

Do they want to see the entire testing process start to finish?

Do they examine the entire circuits you are showing?

Thanks in advance

After starting all that arguing about 17th CUs and youve ran off and started another thread

I just hope he gets clearer advice...

What sort of job are you showing the assessor?

One ring final and one lighting circuit!!

Sorry Sealon, the fella phoned shortly after, been looking forward to it until then!!!!!!

Don't know why but I still panic at being assessed, just spent the whole day checking and testing bonding, behind switches, sleeving, tidying the CU.

Started testing the entire house now!! Filling in paper work getting the books together etc

Still waiting for C&G to send me my Level 3 certificate, thou NAPIT say it is not a problem and to send a copy on later!!!

Don't know if its different between schemes but my NICEIC assessment covered the following.....

Started off going through all my books/paperwork copy of the regs (make sure you have the corrigenda of updates off the IET website), part p doc, EAW regs, etc etc then he moved onto my qualifications and proof of insurance, calibration cert and monthly meter check sheet.

Then into testing (and going over my EIC and MWCs for the jobs double checking my results and why they were acceptable) Went through safe isolation procedure, checked my voltage indicator, proving unit etc, asked if I had MCB lockouts and when would I use them..........did the following tests (don't quote me on the order though)

Continuity of PEB's, Ze, PEFC, PSCC - what they are, what should be the expected readings and what relevance does PEFC/PSCC have on OCPD selection etc etc.

Then onto a ring final circuit, carry out full tests r1,r2,rn R1+R2,IR etc etc. Radial circuit (R2 measurement using long lead plus) and IR. Zs on a circuit of his choosing (mine was on the other ring final, as they don't like doing ceiling roses etc due to access to live parts) what the results were why Zs can be/is different to Ze+R1+R2, and where in the regs to compare to max Zs for the OCPD

RCD tests, tripping times of devices don't forget that depending on the BS number RCDs can be either 200msec or 300msec at x1 trip

I was really nervous as well, its OK doing something day in, day out, a completely different matter when theres something on the line and someones watching you !! I tested my entire house about 5 times in the run up to my assessment........well at least it was good practice, and I know my house is OK :D

A couple of good tips I was given from others on this site were...... don't guess if you can't remember/not sure of a figure or a reg look it up, and most importantly don't forget to zero your meter !! apparently this is a classic slip up

Best of luck and let us know how it went ! I'm sure you'll be OK :D

Hope this helps, but may vary from assessor to assessor. From my house I had to answer some questions on the 17th, from your threads I would say you understand them quite well. I then had to produce certificates from past work and go through them as to why I had filled them in the way I had ie N/A, X etc. I was then asked questions on the EAWR, H&S and GS38. Had to produce an in cal test meter. Also my multimeter was asked for to check if I had GS38 leads on. Once all that done then onto a site visit to assess quality of work.
I had to show a new circuit install and carry out some tests on EFLI and PSCC. Socket covers off to look at connections etc.
Assessor was very nice, just don't bullsh1t, no one knows everything. He did ask about how to insulation test circuits, as long as you mention the cpc must be connected to the earth terminal when carried out he was happy. Good luck and don't worry. My assessor said 1st impressions count. When I took covers off to look at with insulated screwdrivers and all my tools are insulated. Remove the wedding ring before taking stuff apart as my assessor had a nice burn on his finger and was paranoid. There is no 0.4 disconnection time for gold. Good luck and let me know how it went.

Thanks fellas!!!!

It really helps to have some backing and support.

He has just phoned arriving about 11:20 will let you know the outcome

VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY NERVOUS!!!

Chap called Peter Collins anyone know him????

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
:D On the contrary!!! sorry needed to wait for someone to bite Comms

However 2 hours is along time to wait

Fellas thanks for all the positive comments this morning, they made me feel a lot calmer and ready for what turned out to be a relatively painless dare I say enjoyable experience.

Now for the Quiz

q1 How many tests did I have to do?

q2 What were these tests?

q3 What questions did he ask me?

q4 How long was he here?

q5 What did he want to look at?
