My Techumseh engined mower ran badly so I took the carb. apart and cleaned it. It ran for a while and then died. I couldn't start it again because I had broken the starter cord. Any ideas what's wrong with it?. It's not the spark plug.

I got a rotavator that`s so old Tecumseh bought out the co. in the 70`s 
The old boy that fixed it said - that`s a good un because later engines use diaphragms in the carbs - and they play up - so I`d try a carb repair kit for yours
