need help people, would be much appreciated

hi folks, stumbled across this website, but thank god i did(reading some of your help tips/facts)
if any of you guys/women want to help i will back on line tomorrow with the problem infront of me also camera equipped,
i just want to know about changing light fittings in living room, may need step by step instructions.
the main problem is why(me and friend) have managed to get one light on correctly(working fine at the switch) but the other on perminatley(regardless of what i do to the switch) since changing the wires again i cant seem to get any response from the light.
like i said i will be on tomorrow, hope someone will help, landlord wont be to happy

Go out and buy (or find):

a multimeter

a medium and a small electrician's screwdriver

a piece of choc-block (connection strip embedded in plastic)

a permanent pen (fine point)

some red insulating tape or sleeving

some green and yellow sleeving

some white vinyl tape

a notebook and pencil

Tomorrow you are going to have to identify every one of the wires in the fitting(s) you have disturbed, write down what they all are, and (I recommend) put a label on each cable sheath using the white tape and marker pen. Do not assume that all reds are Phase or that all blacks are Neutral. Do not connect all blacks together.
