We are have oak flooring fitted in a porch and need to temporarily lift up the toilet pan in our cloak room to fit the wood underneath. Can anyone give me any any advice on the best way to go about this.
1. Isolate cold feed to cistern.
2a. If close-coupled then disconnect cold feed (and overflow if there is one), then remove cistern.
2b. If not close-coupled then go to step 3.
3. Unscrew pan from floor.
4. Remove pan.
5. Put to one side.
6. Lay floor.
7. Reverse pan removal procedure.
Your big problem will be what to do until you get it refitted. You won't move it, fix the flooring and refit the pan all in five minutes. As for how difficult - depends on whether it's close-coupled or not. If it's close-coupled, the cistern has to be moved as well and that means disconnecting the water supply. If it isn't, turn off the water, empty the cistern, and remove the down pipe. Undo the screws holding the pan to the floor and carefully break the joint between the pan and the pipework. Hopefully, although the pan will be raised fractionally, the pan will still meet the flange.
