my next door neighbour proposes to build a dormer window within inches of my existing dormer thus denying me access to maintain the side of mine. I suspect I can object and insist they leave sufficient space (say 1/2 meter) between them.Am I right ?

i think you will find he must not build on or overhang your land no other restrictions apply as its his land
he only needs to give you access for maintainance if the space physically is still there

All the dormers on our street of semi detached bungalows have been put on at various times since they were first built.

They're all joined to their next door neighbours one at the party wall.

We plan to do the same when ours gets its upstairs next year, and we'll use the neighbours existing hanging tiles from his front and the side of his rear dormers to clad our rear one, then clad both front dormers in new tiles.
