I have a had a staircase replaced, there is an area under the stairs, about a foot which has been plastered, this meets the existing wall, which is painted. I now need to blend these together.

My plan is:
1. Sand the join and a bit either side so it's generally blended together at the join
2. 'Prime' the plaster work with watered down emulsion
3. Paint whole area, new and old with a couple of coats of new paint colour

Anything I'm forgetting?

May need some filler along the way if there are any undulations in the plaster, but generally on the right track

Is it a good idea to buy a multi platform thing so I can reach the tricky bits? The area is above existing stairs.

I'm not sure if there is an easy trick to reaching it

I generally use a ladder and plank back to a pair of steps. Never had any problems.
