Hi, I was wondering if someone can advise on some queries I have.

For current legislation, do extractor fans need to to run off the lights. We are looking to install one but would rather feed the power from a nearby shaver socket.

The electrician I've had round suggests it's fine but some people who I've spoke to seem to think it needs to feed off the light. Also as I'll be supplying the parts he's told me to also get a 3 pull power thingy :-) that isolates the power to the unit (I think) but my question is what exactly does this 3 pull thing do as I fear that when I go in the shower I pull the cord, Fan starts when I get out I pull again to switch off but what happens next, will the fan shut off or will it run on it's timer (say 15mins) before shutting off?

Thanks
Jeff

Three Pole Isolator

this is a sort of switch that cuts all power to the fan e.g. for safe cleaning or maintenance

Most bathroom fans are operated by the lighting circuit, so they have a Neutral, a permanant live that supplies the fan timer, and a switched live that turns it on when you turn on the lights. For most purposes that is the ideal way to operate a bathroom fan.

Many people have an aversion to ventilation and will not switch the fan on if it is not done automatically.
