Moved here a couple of months ago and have a pile of DIY to do, so slowly going through trying to make my mark.

Had my new boiler fitted and next on my ideal list was a new bathroom.

Unfortunately due to the neverending list of things to do and things to buy, finances are now starting to get a little tight.

I was planning on having the bathroom gutted and started from scratch but this morning I was wondering if I get the taps and bathroom fixtures renewed that would inject a bit of life into it before I go about replacing tiles and bath/toilet/basins etc.

The taps are really old and the shower head is green with limescale and tacky plastic.

Would you get these changed or save up and get the whole lot done in one?

Would the fixtures I buy now be able to be transfered over to new set?

Edit - Another question:

I have tiles on the bathroom floor and I noticed a build of mould on the tiles where clearly the previous owner allowed the shower curtain to drip in the corner. I noticed there is a gap where the tiles meet the skirting/walls... should this is siliconed or is this a bathroom equivalent to expansion gaps?

Only you can answer if you want to do the lot or change taps etc.

If you get a new shower head/hose/rail, Bristan for example, and get new basin and bath taps, this can all be transferred during the new bathroom refit in the future yes.

If money was tight, I would swap taps and shower head etc if it bugged me. [/b]

It is bugging me because the taps are about a hundred years old and the shower unit is leaking and covered in black mould.

How much do you reckon I would be looking at for just replacing the small fixtures...

That sounds bugging...

To be honest, it depends on what you're looking to buy. I would recommend, don't buy cheap, buy brand - which still have budget ranges. Depending if you can wangle some discount at a merchants, it may be cheaper to get a local plumber to supply and fit.

For example:

Thank you. I will take a look at this. I'm not looking for anything flash, just clean lines that don't collect dust LOL.

The bath and sink have ridges and are a dust haven... what with all the dust from DIY flying around it is constantly filthy and I haven't even started the bathroom lol.
