hi chaps .this is probably a regs question.

little daytona coming down the stairs with arm on handrail.handrail comes away from wall and he falls bruising his arm and hurting his ribs.he then tries to stand up and puts his hand on the handrail and then punctures his hand on the exposed nails.

on inspection, all they did was grip fill it onto the wall, using wire nails into plasterboard only to hold the weight while the grip fill dries.

is this against regs,im kind of guessing it is but want to get my facts straight.considering going direct to NHBC and taking it up with them.

what would you do?
happened two weeks ago but havent been able to do anything yet as far too angry and not sure what i would do if i meet the chippie that put it up.in short something they did shoddily, caused my son an injury.

that's an astonishing story!

to use only an adhesive, without any form of mechanical fixing, is a crime.

it goes to show, how naive people are about the limits of cartridge type adhesives.

both type of fixing can be used successfully together, e.g. you can increase the amount of weight a radiator bracket can take by squirting some adhesive to the back of the bracket prior to screwing it to the wall.

the rad bracket will still work without the adhesive, but under no circumstances will it work without mechanical fixings and adhesive alone!

i think i'd call the police.

Take some photos of your son and the handrail if you still have it as a record. I think I would call the NHBC and see what they say and take it from there.

i know what your saying mate, its not like its a length of skirting is it!

trouble is its made things difficult with his mum(ex) and now she wont let him sleep round.i live 50 miles from him,its hard enough to spend time with him as it is.thats what makes me really mad.the things people do can affect people in ways they could never imagine.

trust me i fight tooth and nail for our right to contact, and its taken years to get staying contact, just to have it all messed up by someone who couldnt be bothered to spend an extra couple of hours on the job.

i want someones head on a stick for this
