hello just need some advice on a new electric shower, i just want to obtain some knowledge before i call in more plumbers. i am installing a new shower room in a downstairs room, new toilet, basin and shower. i chose an electric shower because i understood i only needed a cold water feed, the first plumber i have had says i need a new independant water feed direct from tank in the loft, as i have just decorated upstiars i am loathed to pull all carpets up etc. is there anywhere else i can get water from that would be adequate? the room does adjoin both an existing downstairs toilet and the kitchen, which because i live in a hard water area has an independant water feed from mains, so as we dont drink the softened stuff.

Electric showers are fed by cold mains only. So your plumber got it wrong (or wasn't listening) when talking about the cold tank in loft

oh ok so thats sort of good news then, i thought i could just take the cold from the tap that is nearby, but he said if i do that, when the shower is on the rest of the house will be starved of cold water.

If you have reasonable water pressure and flow rate on your mains supply he is talking a load of bo***cks

so 'if' my mains pressure is ok, there should be no problem taking a feed from the cold tap in downstairs toilet which is directly behind where i intend new shower to go?? this will not starve the rest of the house

NO  If you run your cold tap in the downstairs whatever does this starve the rest of the house of cold at the taps?

yep get your point, no it doesnt starve the rest of the house at the moment, so there is no reason that it will once the shower is attached. cool that will save me so much hassle, thanks for the advice, just the toilet waste to deal with now!!
