New floor.

Hi, after a leak in downstairs hall/cloakroom, the chipboard flooring has started to sag between the joists. I am going to cut out and renew but need something to cut edge of boards at skirtings. A circular saw would have been ideal if i could get it close enough to skirting but unfortunately not. Any suggestions?

Is anything (such as a wall) resting on this flooring?

If not, then you can get close with a circular saw as you suggest, then either butt the new board up to this and level out with some kind of filler, or use a hammer and chisel to, er, "smack" it out. It's a technical term

Taking the skirting off will get you about 20mm closer.

If your looking at the line of nails they might not be in the centre of the joist. punch/drill a hole adjacent to the nails to see exactly how much of the joist you have to work with, you might have enough of a joist to re-conecct to..

If not... use your circular saw anyway (set at 22mm depth) to cut the floor away and if your new floor is short of the joist, screw a batten to the joist for the new floor to sit on.
