Two rooms knocked through to one to create new kitchen and new circuits installed. Connection point for both electric oven and gas hob located in kitchen cupboard adjacent to oven.

We've just about reached the installation stage and now find that the hob is supplied with a v. short length of cable (approx. 40cm) and there is no way it will reach the connection - aarrggh. Replacing cable can only be done by manufacturers engineer, to do otherwise invalidates the warranty.

using the space within the existing ccu, extend the cables and put a blanking plate on, then run the new cable to a new outlet where you need it.

The manufacturer says

"The appliance is type "Y". This means that
the input supply cable cannot be changed by
the user. Only the brand's service technicians
are qualified to replace this cable."

Forgot to mention the important bit, it's a gas hob. It was going to be plugged into a regular accessible socket

Use a single socket short extension lead.
Unless you plan to alter circuit, then it becomes a "can of worms" with regards to notifiable work.

who can tell me what "The appliance is type "Y"" means?

'mmm

"type Y attachment
a method of attachment such that the flexible cable or cord can only be replaced with the aid of special purpose tools normally available to the manufacturer or his agent
NOTE – Such a method of attachment can be used either with common flexible cable and cord or with special cables or cords."

The instructions more often say that the cable should only be replaced by a qualified electrician, or some such words. I think it would be very difficult for a vendor to try to evade a warranty if, for example, a motor or element failed due to poor materials or worksmanship, unless they could demonstrate that the replacement of the supply cable was reposnsible for the fault.
