Hi,
I'm looking to buy a house that is approx 15 years old but in the lounge there is no chimney breast (flue on outside wall), is this common in newish builds or should I be concerned? Also, what is the average cost of building a fake chimney breast, as the lounge just looks odd with a gas fire on a flat wall.
Thanks

You should not be concerned.

I was once asked to build a studwork chimney for aesthetic reasons. It looked all right. Not that costly.

I've got a house which is approx 55 years old, and I'm going to be paying somebody to remove a chimney breast.

It only looked alright, ewww now I'm not convinced!

Would it be possible to install a wood burning stove in place of the gas fire?
