New laminate or renew quartz worktop

Hi All,

I'm fitting a new kitchen at home. The current quartz worktop is looking tired with numerous stains and a couple of chips and it would have to be cut to fit the new kitchen. We cannot afford to buy a new quartz worktop, so the question is; is it possible to renew the worktop so it wouldn't look out of place with new cupboards, or should we go the new route and buy a laminate one from Ikea?

FYI I have an orbital car detailing buffer at home that may help?

Chips can be sorted out using Tetrosil Stone Fill, they do a clear version that can be tinted with waterbased artist paints. Unfortunately, your car buffer is not gonna cut the mustard. You need to sand the filler back with a DA sander and then use compounds to polish the worktop. An angle grind can be used if you need cutouts but if you are shortening the worktop- someone will need to dress the edge, and you may need to pull the length out temporarily for the work to take place.

I think the cheapest option will be to find someone that specialises in restoring quartz worktops

Get a couple of quotes to sort the quartz and then new laminate. Then consider your options.

Ive decided to get the current worktop re-cut to fit our new kitchen. The main problem area will be hidden under our coffee machine (plumbed in), but I'll also be getting a pro for cutting, clean and polish.

So I found out that the current worktop isn't the right size for the Ikea kitchen! Duropal it is.

Don't use Ikea units. Or space them off the wall. That gives other issues of course
