Been re plastering the bedroom which has involved putting the old switch drop in metal cladding and fitting a new light fitting. The light fitting was the usual nightmare as nothing was labelled with tape so it was all guess work, but I have put brown insulation tape on the switch drop cable, so people know in future how it is wired.

My question is, do I need to put brown insulation tape over the connections to the switch? It seems a bit bleeding obvious that it is a switch drop!

Yes. The black or blue wire should be identified as a line conductor.

The regulations state what should be done without a proviso of 'unless obvious'.

It may (wishful thinking?) deter posters continually stating that "there is a live and neutral at the switch".

1) It's not insulation tape.

2) Tape is not a good thing to use as it will fall off. Get some sleeving.
