Am fitting a new light to ceiling. The old wiring includes an earth wire but new light does not. Do I just need to ignore and cap off? I'd be grateful if anyone could help. Also how do I cap?
Thanks for getting back to me but what is a choc block - is just one of the plastic connecting strips - do I need a particular type or just something to kill the ned of the earth cable?
Why only 1 earth wire? You should have at least 2 cables coming through the ceiling (power supply and cable to the switch) with an earth wire in each. Provided that all earth cables are connected to each other you should be OK.
A choc block is a strip of polythene connectors, like chocolate squares, where the screws opposite each other are used to connect wires together. A single choc block is useful to "cap" a wire not needed for anything.
