New Meter Cupboard Key

My electric meter is not in a cupboard outside, there is nothing in the house needing that type of key. I see a problem if the lock used is not approved by the fire brigade, they clearly need to isolate power in the event of a fire, I was surprised when I Googled to find one can buy them without a problem

seems a little pointless changing the locks if the keys are so freely available.

Some burglars are not very clever.

But probably clever enough not to be caught out and about in the dead of night with a bunch of different keys.

FB2 keys are very common in block of flats. I had these in at least 3 of previous apartment blocks I was living in. The last one had all electric meter s in the underground parking area and they were locked by FB2 Keys. They were all smart meters, so in theory nobody was meant to even go in there. But someone made the design so clever that the smart meters had no signal, so the supplier was unable to retrieve any readings! There was a daytime concierge who has access, but in the end I just bough a set of FB2 keys and went there myself to get a reading. Once every 3-6 months really just to true-up the account. I think it's also just so by passers won't vandalise anything or harm themselves faffing around there. Burglars have very little interest in getting in an communal electricity cupboard as any tampering will possibly be noticed immediately.
