Hi. they replaced the electric meter with one of those digital ones last week , and I noticed that the the guy trimmed the grey sleeve on the tails too much that the red & black sleeves are showing underneath.

after he finished he put some red & black tape on them, is this okay?

thanks

the colour is susposed to show so you can see if its live/neutral. the grey is n the outside so thats its double insulated. i/e if you nick the grey, youll see the other colour underneath so you can see the outer has been damaged

speaking of this, what happens with the new 3 phase colour meter tails? is the grey insulated with a differnt colour?!

You should always have two layers of insulation in an installation (either a cable sheath or conduit/trunking).

He has stripped it too far, as many of them do. You actually do not need to strip the grey at all when doing meters/henleys.

Use tape or heat shrink to ident the cables at the terminations.

TP - one blue, three browns, all grey sheaths - ident as above. Not seen the phase colors used in tails as yet (even with old colours it was always three reds used) .

three browns and a blue is what we install. Then a bit of tape on each to show brown black grey. Cannot get black or grey tails from our wholesalers.

Thanks. is it okay as it is then or should I try and get them back in?
