Hiya,

I want to do out the front in the summer. It has never been done properly before - I think it's the original cement base when the house was built.

It is somewhat uneven, with mini-Everest like mounds visible and a step up to the front door.

I've had a quick read and they all say to lay a bed... is this strictly needed as I have a concrete base already so was planning on chiseling out the mounds as best I could, smash out the step up (as it's not entirely sound) and rebuild with some sort of base.

Then just lay the slabs on top of the concrete base I already have with a simple sand/cement mix.

if the concrete is firm and you can level it off, then yes its fine. Give it a wash off first
