The switch on the left used to operate an extractor fan (in a square hole in the wall above it). We no longer use this as it was installed in 2001 and stopped working some years ago. We really need some extra sockets so how easy would it be to put a single (double?) one there?

If the fused spur is connected to that twin socket next to it, with a 2.5mm cable, then it is just a matter of swapping the spur unit for a single switched socket. The work of minutes.
