Just finished replacing a flight of stairs in the flat. The old set were cracked, split, all different sizes in rise and tread and all over the place on the level. I replaced them all with MDF risers and treads, all of regulation sizes and all level!. The original stairs are still underneath (the previous set had been built over the top) I built each step individually, all are glued and screwed into each other.

Just got to do newel post and spindles

to comply with regs there must be no gap greater than 99mm
as in a sphere must not pass through any gap in the stairs or banisters

Yep I had read that, does that mean you must use spindles rather than bars at an angle?

you can use fishing net if you like as long as sphere cannot pass through

... just borrow a small child and try to push their head through the gap. If it won't go in you're ok ..... unless they've got really sticky-out ears.

Alright .... only kidding
